An Answered Prayer

Quip Correction

Received: 14Dec2009

To those of you who use the quip:
"Your prayers are answered and the answer is no."
Please be aware that your grammar is incorrect.
Two versions are grammatically acceptable:

  • "Your prayers are answered and the answers are no.", or
  • "Your prayer is answered and the answer is no."

Sister Mary-Helene

I personally prefer the latter version because Sister Mary-Helene taught me that the unnecesary use of the plural form can at times be quite troublesome. Also, He might not appreciate your praying for more than one good outcome at a time.
